Mother's Day - May 5-9

The Mother's Day Craft Post

The Pa-Paw Patch, Mother's Day

This week, we focused on talking about our mamas and making Mother's Day gifts.  Most of the pictures we took this week were ones of the children making their crafts, so this post is going to be a Mother's Day craft post, complete with instructions on the projects.  If you need a gift for an aunt, grandmother, teacher, or friend, we have you covered!  We waited a little before writing this post so we wouldn't ruin the surprise!  Here's what our children made for their dear mothers...

Handprint Vases

Materials:
  • Pretty glass jar (think a salsa jar or pasta sauce jar)
  • Paint (one color and white)
  • Paintbrush

Directions:

1.  Wash the jar out well and dry completely.
2.  Let your child paint the jar completely with whatever color they choose.

3.  Once the paint has dried, squirt some white paint on a paper plate.  Dip the child's hand in white paint and carefully stamp the child's hand on the vase.

 4.  Include a few pretty flowers (paper or real) to make a perfect gift!

Handprint Stepping Stones

Materials:
  • Quikrete Ready-to-Use Concrete Mix
  • Water
  • Deep-dish pie pans
  • Sunshine!
Directions:

1.  Mix up the concrete according to package instructions.
2.  Pour into deep-dish pie pans.

3.  Let your child press their hand into the stone, creating a handprint.  This is all we did for ours, but your child could also add stones or mosaic tiles if desired.

4.  Let dry in the pie pan for about 2 1/2 hours or so.  Once dry, pop out the stepping stone.

*These can be painted with exterior paint to seal and color them!

Two other crafts that we did were Decorated Candles and Heart Thumbprint Necklaces.  For the Decorated Candles, the kids drew on and decorated plain white pillar candles with Sharpie markers.  They turned out really well!

And we absolutely loved these Heart Thumbprint Necklaces found here, thanks to Pinterest!  If there were siblings, they each did a thumbprint.  Our Patch mamas really liked them!

We'll have the happenings from this week's Flower and Garden theme posted the beginning of next week, so be sure to check back in!
