With the warmer weather arriving, our Pre-K classes have been having lots of fun outside! Last Thursday we had Mud Day. We asked our parents to send the kids in old clothes and shoes, and then we mixed up a few batches of mud in plastic pools. The kids had a blast playing in the mud...and getting rinsed off with the water hose afterwards! Just look at these happy faces! Fun days at The Pa-Paw Patch!
The Pa-Paw Patch is an early childhood learning center in Vale, North Carolina and this website is its internet home.

Our Garden and Playground
Our new natural play area! |
Over Memorial Day weekend, our owners, Melanie, Robyn, and Pam, along with their families, completed "Phase 2" of our playground renovation! We brought in tree stumps and rocks which will outline our new digging pit (a mixture of sand, small pebbles, and finely ground mulch). The kids can dig in it and drive toy dump trucks through it.
We planted three crete myrtle trees, which will provide safe areas to practice "climbing" trees! We also planted lots of grasses, creating a grass maze the kids can run through and explore, and dotted tree cookies in a path from the digging pit (more of these to come!).
The whole area will soon be mulched as well. The kids had a blast playing in the natural area this morning, and we're excited that we're able to offer our children a unique sensory and learning experience through play!

Gardening and Flowers - May 12-16
Finally, pictures from last week! We talked about plants, gardens, and flowers, learned about parts of a plant, and planted our vegetable garden. Here's pictures from our week of growing!
The one-year-olds made a garden scene with their handprints, footprints and fingerprints. They also colored butterflies, painted flowers, and planted seeds!
The two-year-olds made garden scenes with their fingerprints, used forks to paint tulips, and made bees and ladybugs with their fingerprints!
The three-year-olds measured their heights by creating a height flower garden!
The four-year-olds really enjoyed making their fork tulips! They also loved painting flowers during free-art time. As you can see, our flower sensory tubs, filled with fake flowers and flower arranging supplies, was a huge hit! Many children had fun pretending they were in weddings!
The five-year-olds had fun free-drawing flowers and stamping flowers to create beautiful bulletin boards! The pieced together a plant on paper and labeled each part of the plant. They also created a class gardening book where the children made pictures of what they wanted to grow in their gardens. Super cute!
