HomePlay Idea - Tree of Thanks

Make this cute reminder of what you and your children are thankful for with this Tree of Thanks.  Use it as a decoration or centerpiece at your Thanksgiving table!

The Pa-Paw Patch, thanksgiving tree, preschool Thanksgiving theme, vale nc daycare, vale nc childcare, kids thanksgiving crafts

Materials:
  • Empty oatmeal can
  • Construction paper
  • Ribbon
  • Cupcake/muffin liners
  • Old magazines
  • Gluestick
  • Yarn
  • Hole puncher
  • A tree branch
Directions:
  1. Turn cupcake liners inside out so that the colored or decorated side shows, then press open slightly.
  2. Help your child cut pictures out of magazines that are things they are thankful for.  You can even put a family picture in one if you want.
  3. Glue a picture into the center of each cupcake liner.

  4. Punch a hole in the top and thread a piece of yarn through it.  Tie it at the top to create an ornament. The one pictured below is hard to make out, but it's a plate full of ice cream and dessert!
  5. Tape pieces of construction paper (whatever color you want!) around the oatmeal can to cover it.  Tape ribbon around the can to decorate, or let your child color, draw on or paint the paper before you cover the can to decorate it.
  6. Fill the oatmeal can with sand (we filled it half full of packing peanuts, then put sand on top to make it easier to move), and stick your tree branch down into the sand.
  7. Hang the ornaments on the branches.
Have a happy Thanksgiving counting your blessings!  Our Patchers are blessings to us!
